Now the full review of Bissell air220 2609A Smart Purifier.

Operation.

The Bissell air220 2609A Smart air purifier is operated manually. Which means no remote or app.

The fan speed and power of the BISSELL air220 home air purifier are both adjustable through a smooth-to-the-touch dial located on top of the unit.

Ease of operation. To operate this unit only needs a quick 3 steps.

  1. Power on by pressing the power on dial.
  2. Allow unit to run for 30 minutes initially, to calibrate itself to the environment.
  3. Set the fan speed to your desired level. Twist dial clockwise to increase and counter clockwise to decrease. Or put it on auto mode and it adjusts itself to the air quality in the room.

Filtration system for the Bissell air220 2609A Smart Purifier

Filter Type.

  1. Includes a pre-filter. A pre-filter eliminates dust, hair, insects, pollen, and fibers before the main filters.
  2. H13 HEPA filter. A HEPA grade of H13 can remove 99.95% of all particles in the air measuring 0.2 microns in diameter. This it does on the lowest fan speed for pollen, dust, pet dander, and smoke like that from tobacco, wildfires and cooking. This is especially helpful if you leave in an area that is prone to wild fires. HEPA is an acronym for High Efficiency Particulate Air and is considered a medical grade filter.
  3. And an activated carbon filter. Carbon filters capture odors by adsorption. This happens when molecules cling to the exterior of a surface, rather than being soaked into it.  It traps home odors from pets, cooking and smoking as well as potentially harmful VOCs.

The Bissell air220 2609A Smart Purifier has a 3 stage filtration system.

The air is drawn in through the front of the device, passed through a pre-filter, a HEPA filter, and a carbon filter, and then the air that has been purified is released from the top of the device.

Size and purification time.

The diagram shows the various sizes of space and the time it takes to purify them. The BISSELL® air220 air purifier filters the air in a room that is 259 square feet in size 4.8 times every hour, effectively removing contaminants such as dust, pollen, pet dander, smoking, and odors (or roughly every 12 minutes).

This air purifier can handle a large room of size 1252 sq, ft. air change per hour. Air changes per hour is the number of times that the total air volume in a room or space is completely removed and replaced in an hour.

Can it really purify the air of a room of size 1252 sq. ft.? This depends on a number of things.

  1. The position of the air purifier in the room.
  2. How much air and how fast air passes through the room.
  3. How much pollutants ( smoke, odors etc.) are in the air.

My research makes me believe that it can purify, very well, a room of size 900 sq. ft. taken into consideration all of the dependencies stated above. So if you have a room size of 900 sq. ft. or below you do not need a second air purifier in the same room.

One of the con of the Bissell air220 2609A Smart Purifier is that it has replacement filters and not washable or reusable filter. So you get to buy filters every 6 months or less depending on usage.

However, changing filters is very easy. This can be done from the front of the purifier.

Ozone free.  Yes it is ozone free. Meaning you don’t have to worry about ozone contaminants in the air in your home. That is what the activated carbon filter in the 3 stage of filtration does. This is especially important because of the damage ozone may do to the cells lining your airways, you may find yourself coughing and feeling irritated.

Technology.

It comes with the Automate CirQulate® System. This means the Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) sensor monitors the indoor air quality, provides color-coded feedback, and adjusts the fan speed as necessary to maintain clean air. So if the air quality is bad the fan speed increase and if good it reduces.

AHAM Verified. Tested to the AHAM Standard to have Smoke CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate ) of 167. AHAM is recognized by the EPA as an Administrative Body and approved to administer verification testing for purposes of the ENERGY STAR program

Allergies.

It helps to remove airborne allergens and irritants like dust, pet dander, pollen.

Airborne allergens and irritants like dust, pet dander, pollen, smoke from wild fires, cooking and smoking.

Noise level.

51 dB. Take note that virtually every air purifier with a fan has low and high settings. The noise on low setting is barely audible while it could be considered loud on high setting depending on the surrounding noise. The noise level at 51Db is similar in intensity to a electric fan, hair dryer, a running refrigerator, or like a normal conversation at home.

The fan has five different speeds, with the lowest speed being equivalent to a whisper. It works well in bedrooms and contributes to the creation of a calm environment in which to sleep.

Power source and energy savings.

The Bissell air220 2609A Smart Purifier has a corded electric power source. With a power cord length of 6 ft. Having a place to tuck away and hide the cable at the back helps reduce the amount of unused cord on the floor. It can work fine with an extension cord because it draws small amount of power.

If you are using this with any smart plug/timer you do have to manually push the power button to switch it on.

The energy consumption is 0.63 amps which is adequate for a machine that operates a motor inside. However this is not Energy star Certified. For a similar model, BISSELL air320, with the certification. Though it has a higher price tag. Products that have earned the ENERGY STAR label help you save energy.

This unit saves on power consumption when used on low settings.

Design.

It has a compact design that can fit anywhere in a room. The filters can be accessed from the front thereby making it easy to be placed against the wall with no problem. It is lightweight with a handle that makes it easy to carry around in the home. It has little, non-removable legs to stand on, placing it about 4” above the floor.

Sensors.

When there is not enough light in the room, the automated night mode will make the display go dark .

Schedule timer.

No timer to schedule when it should start or stop air purification.

Settings.

The settings on this air purifier are minimal and uncomplicated. You just put on the power button and the same button can be used to set the fan speed by turning it clockwise or counter clockwise.

The best setting for a hassle free operation seems to be the auto mode. In this mode it detects the air quality and auto adjusts the fan speed to suit it. It can also detect the amount of light in a room and if dark automatically goes into night mode which is low setting and very quiet.

Smartphone connect. None.

Display .

There is a color coded display which changes according to the quality of the air in the room. There are 3 colors, Blue for Good Air Quality, Yellow for Moderate Air Quality, and Red for Poor Air Quality. So at a glance you know the air quality in the room.

Maintenance/Cleaning.

Maintaining this air purifier is a breeze. There are no washable filters to mess with. When the filter is due for a change, a filter change indicator will inform you.

If your digital display is showing F1 and/or F2, this means that either one or both of your filters needs to be replaced.

F1 means that your HEPA + Pre-Filter needs to be replaced. F2 means that your Carbon Filter needs to be replaced. If both F1 and F2 are flashing, both filters need to be replaced.

After replacing your filter(s), press and hold down the power button for 3 seconds to reset the filter(s). Once reset, the air220 will beep and the F1 and/or F2 will no longer show on the digital display.

Safety — Child lock.

There is no child lock feature on this air purifier. There is no danger to children or pets either from it. There is no hole that a pet or child could poke a finger into. The design is closed and compact.

Warranty.

The Bissell air220 2609A Smart Purifier has a 3 year limited warranty.

Dimensions .

Weight 18.7 lbs. Dimensions. 14.5 (W) X 8.5 (D) X 24 (H)

Accessories.

Replacement and other accessories can be found at BISSELL.com, Amazon.com, or anywhere that carries BISSELL Air Purifiers.

Pros.

  • simple and compact design that is easy to operate.
  • works very well for large rooms.
  • air quality display indicator
  • reset filter indicator
  • child and pet safe
  • easy remove and replacement of filters
  • 3 year limited warranty.

Cons .

  • no remote control ( no be honest one is not needed )
  • no app or smart phone control and timer schedule.
  • does not use reusable filters ( which saves money on buying filters)

Price.

The Bissell air220 2609A Smart Purifier is well priced considering it is well built, does the job as advertised and less priced than other air purifiers in it’s class. The reason for being cheaper could be attributed to the fact that it does not have the extra features, like remote control, WIFI or connection to a smart phone that other more priced air purifiers like the BISSELL air320 Max Smart WiFi Air Purifier have.

So if you are looking for an air purifier that does the job without the extras, this is for you.

Also, the fact that it has no washable or reusable filter makes it cheaper. There are different prices, depending on whether you are buying with filter packs or not.

Summary.

If you buy this product, you are getting the quality that comes from a known brand like Bissell. The product works as advertised. That is, purify the air in your home. Apart from the fact that this air purifier does it’s job efficiently, it is hassle free and maintenance easy operation for you.

This is the best air purifier at it’s price range. However if price is an issue there is one that is almost as good. That is the Happi Air Purifier for Larger Rooms . This will do the same job equally.

The Bissell air220 2609A Smart Purifier is for someone or family with a large space to purify, and does not require much fiddling with settings.

If you intend to use this is a small space or room this could be an overkill taking into consideration the price tag. There are very good air purifiers for small spaces with much cheaper price tags, like the Instant HEPA Quiet Air Purifier the makers of Instant Pot.
